BIOS Update with OS 6?
I just recently acquired a Ultra 6 Plus and looking around I noticed certain revisions have had BIOS updates and I'm wondering if my unit needs one. Looking at the log it reports...
Further looking suggested that BIOS updates are now handled by Firmware upgrades? I jumped right from the firmware that was installed to 6.1.9 and the 6.2 Beta 2. Its version of 4 was rather old I believe. So I'm wondering if I need any, if so how would I go about getting them, etc. If it helps my CPU details are..
- product_version=07/26/2010 FLAME6-MB V2.0

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredBIOS upgrades are not handled by firmware upgrades except for a few cases for some early 4.2.x builds I think (and even then it wouldn't be updating to what is currently the latest BIOS).
Your BIOS is the latest for your NAS.
It is possible to upgrade the BIOS on a legacy ReadyNAS whilst running OS6 but you would need to use SSH. Better to do it using the add-on on 4.2.x before upgrading. But as your BIOS is already the latest you don't need to worry about that. - CharlesRGuideThanks!

I have a Pro 6, I downloaded my logs and took a look at the bios_ver.log file. Mine says 07/26/2010 FLAME6-MB V2.0 as well.
Can I assume this is the latest BIOS version for my unit before I go ahead and do an upgrade to OS 6.20? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes. That is the latest BIOS for your unit
- KillerBobAspirantI have a Pioneer Pro, and the bios says "10/03/2008 Flame6-MB v1.6". Is that the latest version, and if not, then how do I upgrade it? I am on FW 4.2.27...
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredKillerBob you can install this BIOS update: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=387035#p387035
- railstop1AspirantI have a Pro 6, "product_version=10/03/2008 FLAME6-MB V1.6" "bios_version=080014", any idea if this can be upgraded? Thanks
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes the BIOS can be updated on your Pro Business Edition(?) Are you still running OS4? If so, install the add-on I linked to in my post above.

I am on 6.2 now. Is it possible to upgrade with 6.2 already installed? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWith SSH, you could install flashrom and dmidecode via apt-get and do it manually. I haven't done this for quite a while but it can be done.
You can get the BIOS ROM, by extracting the contents of the add-on. Be sure to use the correct ROM for your NAS. If you use the wrong one you will brick your system.
