- PapaBear1ApprenticeWhen I got my NV+ (Infrant at the time) some 4 1/2 years ago, the first thing I did was read through the user manual, several times. There was a lot I did not fully understand, and when I reached those areas in the set up, I just let it stay with the default settings.
My setup was using it as a file server so that all my files would be in one location. I would caution you however, to always make sure you have a current and complete backup. The rule is basically do not store any important/critical data on a single device. Keep in mind that even when you add the next drive and achieve redundancy, that is not a backup. It makes it easier to recover from a drive failure, but will not help if you have problems with the NAS, or if there is a catastrophic loss of the NAS (fire, theft, weather, etc).
I initially used a USB external drive connected to my PC and copied the files over by copy/paste as it was a process I was familiar with. You can progress to connecting the USB drive to the NAS directly and using the frontview backup jobs.
You did not specify whether you have an NV+(v1) or NV+(v2). If you have an RND4xxx-100NAS, it is a v1, if you have an RND4xxx-200NAS, it is a v2. There are significant differences between the two, including very different Frontview screens. - ImemAspirantIT is a rdn4000-100nas
I got IT at a Good pris (it is new in a box) and i guess it's not as fast as the new drives but I think it can serve me and my home system
Even a sata-150 can stream he movies I hope.
And this is the disk i got
Seagate Intern HÃ¥rddisk Barracuda Green 2TB (Cache 64 MB / 5900RPM / Sata 6Gb/s) ST2000DL003
http://www.webhallen.com/hardvara/127200-seagate_intern_harddisk_barracuda_green_2tb_st2000dl003 - ImemAspirantBoth this memory
CRUCIAL Minne laptop 1 GB DDR-333 - PC-2700 - CL2.5 (CT12864X335)
Hope this is the right one

She'll I install the latest firmweare before I install my first disk and is there any problem inserting the 1gig memory module
Is there any other stuff I should install or fix before I start to insert my data - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou need to install a disk then update the firmware.
1. Insert a disk
2. Update to the latest firmware (be sure to verify that the firmware update is successful)
3. Power down the NAS and insert other disks if you wish
4. Do a factory reset (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_do_i_use_the_boot_menu) to get a clean setup on the latest firmware.
Do note that 3rd party memory upgrades are unsupported and you may be denied help to recover data if 3rd party memory causes data corruption and in any case will be expected to put the stock memory module back in before they can assist (so do keep it). Have a read of http://www.readynas.com/?page_id=83
Also note that memory manufacturers have been known to change memory modules rendering them incompatible without changing the module number, so your module may not be compatible.
If you upgrade the memory be sure to run the memory test (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/hardware/is_there_a_way_i_can_verify_if_my_memory_is_good) at least twice before trusting the memory. - ImemAspirantAll did go well until I tried to do a factory reset like on that link you posted.
It say's init kernel and switch to ip 192.168.125.033 and back to init kernel
And it still do 2h later.
What is wrong I confirm that the latest firmweare was installed
And I have not inserted new memory.
Im - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThat's odd.
Perhaps try a USB Boot Recovery (http://www.readynas.com/kb/faq/boot/how_can_i_perform_a_boot_recovery_using_a_usb_flash_device then another factory reset - ImemAspirant

Okey to verify I do right
I shot down the nas
I klick on the little reset button
Turn on the nas keep holding the button until 30sec have passed
I don't se anny factory reset in display i get TFTP Boot
That's all
Have misunderstand
She'll I hold the resset button for 30sec instead will booting?
I feel stupid now but I don't want to do the wrong thing
Im - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDon't touch the reset button to do the boot recovery. The instruction is to turn the NAS on holding the power button. Did you follow the Unofficial Guide referred to in the link I gave?
Once you've done the boot recovery then try the factory default again using the reset button. - ImemAspirant

I done the boot recovery
But when I do the factory resset she'll I hold the reset button down or power button
So I do right
For I don't see the factory reset after 30sec holding power button
