Windows explorer can be configured to show hidden files, if they are showing up in a lighter color that is likely what's happened. It is also possible to see them in Finder, but since I'm not a Mac person I don't know how they are presented if you do that.
You can reset owner/group and permissions in Frontview by clicking on the CIFS icon next to the share name (in the share list) and then clicking on the "advanced options" tab (upper right). You enter the settings you want, and check the box next to "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share..." Then click apply (bottom right). The checkbox will clear, and the permissions will be changed in the background. There will be a pop-up in the browser when it finished, it will also be logged.
