What protocols are you using? Have you tried to reset the permissions for the files/folders?
You will want to try to have the permissions be set for the file/folder permissions to be open at the file level. There is an option in the Advanced CIFs and AFP options to reset the permissions upon create or write to the NAS. The other part to check is the Advanced tab to reset the ownership of the files/folders on the folder level.
Advanced CIFs/AFP settings: Page 61
Reset Ownership and permissions: Page 62 (The default owner and group are nobody and nogroup)
