Can't Access Boot Menu (Bootloader)

I don't see where in this article my question is answered. It is a good article to tell the difference between the v1 and v2 devices, but I don't see where it is helping me understand why I can't get into the Boot Menu. To give some more information this all came about because Raidar says that my disk is Corrupt. That's because this disk was previously formatted with NTFS, but never used. So I want to use it now in this NAS device and all the documentation I could find said to enter the Boot Menu and do a OS REINSTALL which will reinitialize the disk.
