I am able to access the unit using RAIDar or the ip address. I checked the Workgroup, which was blank. I am unable to change the workgroup. When I enter a workgroup name and apply, the workgroup name is still blank. I re-installed the os, which changed the password to the default 'netgear1'. I am unable to change the password. The share listing shows only http and no longer shows cifs or afp. Sometimes the shares disppear and I need to reboot for them to appear again.
This sounds like it could be a full OS partition. What firmware are you running, and what add-ons to you have installed?
Don't do any more OS reinstalls or configuration changes. And DON'T attempt to download the logs.
Do you have ssh enabled? If so, you might be able to solve it yourself. (If not, this is not the time to try and enable it).
Other options include
(a) back up the data, do a factory reset, and restore the data from backup
(b) Contact Netgear support and ask about paid "per-incident" support for this problem.
Sometimes deleting the logs (w/o downloading them) will resolve it, but that might only be a temporary fix.

Hi Sage,
Thanks for your suggestions. I can't backup my data from the unit because it doesn't retain any of the backup settings after entering 'apply'. Is there another way to accomplish a backup of my data?
The firmware version is 4.2.25 & there are no add-ons installed and ssh in not enabled.
When I turned on the unit I noticed that the temperature was out of spec and a fan apparently is not working. Could this be causing the problem?
Is it possible for me to repair or replace the fan, or does the unit need to be returned to Netgear for repair?
Thanks for your help,
Ron...

Drag-and-drop to a USB drive connected to a PC. If you have a gigabit network that is faster than the local USB ports. You could also do a "pull" backup job on one of your other pro-6, using this one as the source.

Well, I think that fan doesn't really exist. Here's my Pro 6 Screenshot:
In addition to the data volume, the disks have an OS partition that is quite small (4 GB in the pro-6). Sometimes it will fill, and the system can act really strangely when that happens.

Hi Sage,
You're right about the fan; I've check my other units, like your screen shot, there is no Fan CAS fan present.
I can't access the unit from another ReadyNas. When I test the connection I get an "error connecting"
Connecting a USB directly to the unit doesn't work because the unit doesn't save the backup settings, so after applying I get "no backup jobs have been scheduled"
I don't think I can drag and drop to a PC because the unit is not visible in Windows Explorer.
So at this point it looks like I'm a hurtin' puppy.
