can't copy files to readynas with new 6TB drive

The readynas is connected directly to the router with an ethernet cable (not entirely sure on the grade). The connection from the computer and mac is router - approx 30m cat5e - gigabit switch - cat6 cable or wireless repeater.
The firmware is the latest version, RAIDiator 5.3.10. I did attempt to downgrade to 5.3.9 but ran into difficulties doing this, I could try again if you'd suggest?
I have not tested the disk, I will give this a try first first tomorrow.
