Well, it seems to be working ok now, but wasn't before. Two things changed - restarting the NAS and eliminating your router/switches/cables.
If the problem returns when you connect the NAS back up to the router, then that suggests you have an underlying network problem - possibly a cable, as mdgm suggests.
It's not clear what it means if the problem doesn't return when you reconnect it normally. Though I'd take an "if it's not broke then don't fix it" view in that case myself.
Backups of course are a very good idea given that you are off the HCL using a very new drive model.
