cant go faster than 12 MB/s

i copy alot of data over my network to my ready nas ultra 4 plus

i cant get any faster than 12 MB /s (100 Mbit/s) >>> basically using 10% of gigabit LAN.

is this normal should i be getting faster speeds? i have 4 x 3 tb wd reds configured in x -raid

seems like my ready nas is the bottle neck... am i wrong?

thanks,

looks like the issue is either with the netgear switch (gs108na) or the 25 ft cat5e (Belden bonded pair) patch cord that connects it to the Pace.

I had the exact same problem, and it was the patch cable (in my case, just a 20cm patch cable). It was driving me crazy trying to work out why I was only getting 100Mb/s through my router, until I remembered I had recently swapped the cable. Swapped it for a different cable, and everything was again humming at max speed (in my case, limited by the wireless connection from my MacBook Air).

Best bet is to go with the 6 bay RN516 (or the RN716 if you can afford it). The 500 and 700 series are the fastest, but neither has a 4 bay version at present.

The 716 will do ~600 MB/s on a 10 gig link, so it easily maxes out gigabit.

Or wait an go with the ReadyNAS 200 series that Netgear have announced, it is supposed to be capable of up to 200MB/s which should be enough to max out Gigabit. Though the question then becomes, what are you doing that requires maxing out Gigabit?

I'm not sure what scenario delivers 200 MB/s.

I am running jbod, and I get about 80 MB/s write and 95 MB/s read with NasTester. The disk is a WD60EFRX, snapshots and bitrot protection are turned off for the share, and AV is also off for the system. That's pretty similar to the RN300 series.

I'm just quoting straight from the Netgear press release http://www.netgear.com/about/press-rele ... -2015.aspx

ReadyNAS 200 is powered by a Dual Core Cortex A15 1.4 GHz processor, 2 gigabytes (GB) of Random Access Memory (RAM), and dual Gigabit Ethernet ports with Link Aggregation technology. You’ll love the performance of ReadyNAS 200 for faster backups and faster file access, especially if you have a newly upgraded 802.11ac WiFi network. ReadyNAS 200 transfers files up to an amazing 200 MBps* (megabytes per second), double the throughput of competing devices in its class.

Yes, I saw that press release also. I was just reporting my actual results with an RN202 using a NAS drive.

I'm not sure how Netgear set up the RN200 to get such a high speed. The unit does support teaming and SSD disks. Perhaps they used both.

Sorry - didn't realise anyone actually had an RN202(or 204). I also was wondering how they would get such a high speed.

Netgear gave me a beta unit to test.
