mdgm is partially right. I recommend having RAIDar on at least one machine. The tool is helpful to understand what your NAS is doing when it's not accessible (during upgrades etc.). It will also be more accurate to display a failed drive. Or if it needs to be placed into tech support mode for support, it will also display the telnet port number that it has chosen. For everyday use; it's not very important. It comes in handy quite often though.
