I've just noticed that I can no longer see the shares in Finder. The NAS is clearly working OK; I can ping it, my SONOS system plays music from it over the network, netgear genie shows it's there - ...

Just realised I should have said that since finding this probelm I've updated the NAS, the mackbook pro, and the router to latest firmwate / OS, and rebooted each of them.

Does RAIDar find the NAS when you install it on the Mac? ( https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads#raidar )
Also, try entering smb://nas-ip-address in the server address field in finder (using the real IP address of the NAS), and see if that also fails to connect.

RAIDER finds it; the ip address finds it, but the shares don't show in Finder as they used to.
CC Cloner reports the "cccbackup" share is not mounted.
I'm thinking it's an apple configuration thing I'm missing but no idea where to look.

Just to clarify -entering smb://nas-ip-address/nas-share-name in finder works?

No, it returns error message " Problem connectin to server 19.168.2.200 {{ not the real IP address !!}}
Share does not exist on the server please chack name and try again
If I do Go/network it shows the readynas, and also a PC with the same IP address. Opening either one lists and allows access to th shares. But they don't show as shares which makes it hard to use.
