Changed router - ip problems - can't login to Frontview
Hi
Linux - ReadyNAS Ultra 2
I just changed my NETGEAR FVS318 for a FVS318g
With the former I was using the default ip address range 192.168.0.1-192.168.0.xxx
The FVS318g defaults to 192.168.1.1-192.168.1.xxx
RAIDar can see my readynas on the new router (with a different ip address) but I can't enter setup to change to the new ip address I want to use. The control panel/frontview won't open in my browser - I think the password is ip specific.
Can anybody tell me how I can change my ReadyNAS ip address please, bearing in mind I can't open Control Panel?
Many thanks,
David

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIf RAIDar sees a new 192.168.1.x address, you should be able to log into Frontview by entering https://192.168.1.x/admin.
You will get a new security certificate exception, which you will need to click through. I find the security certificate stuff less frustrating to use with FireFox (over IE). - davidr1LuminaryHi,
Thanks for your post.
That's my problem.
Using Firefox and allowing the exception, when I get to the login for (it says) 'Control Panel' my password is not accepted. Yet it is the correct password.
David - PapaBear1ApprenticeDid you by chance set the IP address on the Pro to static rather than dynamic (my ReadyNAS units all have static IP addresses)? If so, then while Radar will see the NAS, you can't connect to it. Check the IP address shown on the front panel of the Pro (momentarily press the power button) and verify that it is in the range of the FVS318g).
Simply changing switches (or routers) will not change the admin password, but will change the IP address (if the IP is dynamic).
It sounds as if the firewall on the FVS318g may be blocking your access to the NAS. Have you contacted Netgear Tech Support about this issue with the FVS318g? - davidr1LuminaryHi,
Thanks for your reply.
Just to clarify - its a ReadyNAS Ultra 2, not Pro - so I don't have the LCD display.
I always had it set up to get the ip from my router (Netgear FVS318) by giving it a fixed ip in the table.
If I revert to my old router I don't have a problem.
In the new router it has a new IP address - still works fine, not a problem, no firewall blocking - except I can't get Frontview. I get a security certificate exception - get past that but then it won't accept my password. It's trying to log me into 'control panel'.
I can access it using ssh in terminal but from there I'm lost.
David - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYes, normally when you log into Frontview you get the logon and password prompt, and the application is reported as control panel. So that should be happening with your old router as well (unless you set it up to remember your logon).
At the risk of being too basic - you did enter "admin" as the user, correct? - PapaBear1ApprenticeSorry about the confusion. When I looked up at a previous post, I confused StephenB's profile for yours.

Please - be basic.
No - the screen defaulted to my login name and password (remembered by Firefox).
Then I tried user admin, password netgear1 - no luck.
Last night I I could ssh successfully in terminal - after it complained about security and I replied 'yes' (go ahead).
I have just read your post - so I tried user admin with my password - and I'm in! THANK YOU - (just shouting from the rooftops :D )
But I'm still getting the security issue every time I start firefox and try to log in ???? Each time it won't let me past 'Confirm Security Exception' unless I untick 'Permanently store the exception'.
I'm confused though why it presented me with my name and password already filled out instead of admin and my password ... enlightenment would be welcome.
Thanks very much ...
David - PapaBear1ApprenticeHave you cleared the browser cache?
- davidr1LuminaryYes - early on ...

Glad you are in. The auto-filling of the fields is being done by FireFox, and not the NAS. Firefox Tools\Options lets you adjust this behavior. Click on the security icon, then saved passwords. You can select any site and remove it from the saved list. Then it should come up blank the next time.davidr wrote: I have just read your post - so I tried user admin with my password - and I'm in! I'm not sure exactly what is happening on the exception. Though under tools\options you click on the advanced icon to manage this. Select "view certificates" then the server tab. If the server/IP address is already listed, you might try deleting it, then connect to FrontView (and try permanently store again) There is also an add exception button there, which you could also try.
