HiI am running a rn104 with 3x3tb and 1x2tb drives in raid 5. I have just got another 3tb drive, can I just pull the 2tb and replace it with the 3tb and let the volume rebuild, also can I hot swap or should I power downThanks in advance.

I always prefer hot-swapping, since then the NAS has a clear indication of removal/insertionSo you can simply remove the 2 TB drive with the NAS running, install the new drive into the same tray, and then hot-insert. Also, it is always a good idea to update backups before manipulating the disk drives in the RAID array.

Finally got round to doing this last night and my 104 just flashes degraded on the front panel and hard drive 4 light just flashes, is this correct.

Have you installed the 3TB disk yet?What do you see under Volumes in the Dashboard?

Pulled the 2tb and fitted the 3tb last night but still showing degraded this morning, do I have to do anything else.

Its not showing the new 3tb in the volumes tab.I thought it would be a simple pul one drive, fit the new one and let the volume rebuild as I am set for raid 5.

Right finally got that sorted, turned out it was a faulty drive :shock:

Now I hve got hold of 2 x4tb drives which I am going to swap with the 3tb ones, does it matter which drive I pull first, can I just start with drive 1 and work along (I will be changing them all to 4tb eventually).

You said you had tested the drive when I asked, are you saying it passed your initial testing and failed on subsequent testing?
Testing a drive should use vendor tools extended or long tests, shorter tests have false negatives.

Yes tested fine in hdtune but when I tried the vendor tools it showed numerous errors so sent back.
