Changing SSL certificate

Hello,

So today I found out how annoying it is not to setup your NAS on a static ip. Alot of my programs and stuff was not configured correctly, because it had changed IP. Anyways, I've changed it to a static ip now.

My problem is, that I'm not able to change the SSL certificate. For some reason, when I view the details of the certificate (when accessing the NAS) it still gives me the old ip adress, even though I've generated a new one. I've deleted the SSL certificate in the SSL section, removed stored cache and removed the acceptance of content license. I'm using Google Chrome.

Not really sure how to remove this error, as it's quite annoying to look at it when you're connecting to the NAS.

EDIT: It seems like I've been a dumbass, and in reality I have been using the outward ip adress to access my NAS, instead of my local ip. But I still have the same problem, not sure how to get rid of the certificate. Both of the ip adresses work, if I want to access the NAS.

Actually you don't need to regenerate the SSL certificate. Just click through the security exception. (No matter what you do, you will get a security exception because the certificate is self-signed)
  • Not neccesarily. I know that it won't prevent anything except it's not being a little more annoying logging in, but still I like that you don't have to see the red cross symbol and have to press on "proceed" or whatever it is :)

Chrome will still show you the red cross, even if you regenerate the certificate. That is because the certificate is self-signed.

Firefox will allow you to enter a security exception, which prevents that from being shown again.
  • But before my ip-adress was changed, the cross wasnt there even though I made a self signed certificate. So I must be able to do that again?

I've always seen it in chrome. Honestly, it shouldn't ignore self-signed certificates - otherwise any fake evil website could easily bypass the ssl authentication.

Originally, did you manually install the NAS SSL certificate in the browser?
  • Yeah, i manually installed the SSL certificate into my browser, but you are right, they should just remove it, since it's pretty useless anyways. I just thought it was really annoying to look at. :)

I've played with it a bit, but with Chrome all that happens is that you trade one security exception message for a different one.
