Complete data loss on Duo v2, Raid-X after single HDD fail

Hello,
I have a ReadyNAS Duo v2 which is now just over 3 years old. I'm pretty sure it was set-up using RAID-X or RAID-1 with 2x 1TB drives providing me with 1Tb of available space.
As the start of the week HDD no.2 of 2 started to make some strange noises.
By mid week the ReadyNAS was running the fans at a medium speed. I tried rebooting and then the three LED's on the front cycled from one to another (2 HDD LED and power LED).
RAIDar showed the 2nd HDD as dead so I have installed a brand new 1Tb HDD.
RAIDar took a long time to complete the initialising as it was stuck at 99% for a long time.
Now RAIDar is showing green, RAID-X, redundant, 64Mb of 1GB used (0%).
I can access the ReadNAS from Windows 7 but it shows 1.54GB of 1.61Gb Free and most importantly none of my files... no pictures... no photos... nothing.

Please help.
Many thanks,
Tim.

Wed Apr 1 12:26:40 PDT 2015 A SATA reset has been performed on one or more of your disks that may have affected the RAID parity integrity. It is recommended that you perform a RAID volume resync from the RAID Settings tab ( accessible in the Volumes page => Volume tab in FrontView ). The resync process will run in the background, and you can continue to use the ReadyNAS in the meantime.

Just to prevent confusion - you actually have a duo v1 (duo v2 runs 5.x.x firmware, not 4.1.x). The labels are confusing, read this post for a fuller explanation: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/

I think your best option is to contact support (though they will charge for data recovery). That would be via support.netgear.com.
  • Hi,
Thank you for your help, I was looking at the sticker which said v2... something new to me.
I'm happy to pay for support but really want know they can actually help get my data back and not just tell me that it's broken.
Does anyone have any experience of using support?
    Thanks, Tim.

When it comes to data recovery there are never any guarantees. Data recovery attempts may be unsuccessful. Every case is different. Also note the data recovery we attempt is software based only.

My opinion from what you've posted is that it doesn't look good.
