You probably won't like this suggestion, but have you considered custom firmware for your wdtv live. It seems the standard network options are very limited in the standard firmware. There is at least one custom firmware which seems to offer many more options. It may take some learning and effort to get it set up but if it improves your devices functionality it may be worth it.
