Since accessing the network share is working on the WDTV (the problem is limited to DLNA) it seems unlikely that the problem to be related to file permissions or workgroups. The fact that the movie simply stops in the middle of playback also suggests that the the cause lies elsewhere.
The ssdp frequency is a possibility. Some people have found that turning off upnp services on their router helps dlna discovery (as sometimes these services amount to a upnp proxy, which can get in the way). Again,if the WDTV is connected wirelessly, look carefully at the wifi router settings and see if there is any checkbox related to broadcast or multicast. If there are, make sure such services are enabled.
