Answer: no
Will that be useful in case someone needed to open an SSH tunnel from the outside world?
Answer: Not really.
Is it still needed for the average user?
Answer: No and Yes, if the average user was also using the Free Crashplan Backup to backup the local Computer it would not work and you would have to change everything back. i.e. the my.service.xml file on the NAS and the local ui.properties on the Computer.
