Reason was I had an issue a while ago and had to reconfigure, so was worried if put something important (e.g. music collection which is huge) there was a possibility could lose it....

Yeah, same here. I'm always concerned about hiding the data behind several abstraction layers, so I had to do this research before committing data to the device... seems we think much the same, you and me 8)
