Deleted "media" share

I have very stupidly deleted the "media" share from my readynas duo (v1). I thought the shares were an abstract grouping of the files on my drive, I was wrong - it seems that all the files that were within that share have gone. I've got two 1.5 Tb drives in a XRaid configuration and am using Windows 8. When I look at the Readynas in "My Computer" all the files are visible as normal (music tracks appearing with album covers when viewed as tiles), however none are accessible and the following message and error code is seen when double clicked upon. I get the same message if I try to copy any of the files from the readynas.

"An unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file. If you continue to receive this error, you can use the error code to search for help with this problem.
Error 0xC00D001A: No error description available"

I would be greatful for any help.

Regards

Anthony

Well, if you deleted the share the files are gone. There is nothing abstract about a share...

A data recovery program is likely your best option. You shouldn't write to the NAS until you've managed to recover stuff.

Netgear support may be able to help - although they'd probably need to charge you.
  • If you go for the home recovery method, then try R-Studio. I, and others, have had fairly decent outcomes with it.
  • Thanks for the replies, I've downloaded a trial version of R-Studio and while it recognises practically everything else on my computer it doesn't pick up the readynas. I see that there is a "remote computer" option, but this doesn't recognise the Readynas. How do I make the connection.

Any ideas why the file structure still remains on the readnas as mentioned in my first post?

    Thanks

You would need to shut down the NAS, and put the drive on the PC in order to use R-Studio. It needs direct access to the disk.

On the file structure question, I am not sure what is happening there. One possibility is that Windows 8 is caching the file structure.
  • Once again thanks for the reply. I've got two disks in the box, which one do I use, does it matter or is one the back up of the other, as it is a xraid system. Do I use one of these usb type boxes that you can stick hard drives in? Sorry for what might seem daft questions but this a new area for me.

    Many thanks in anticipation

A USB enclosure would be fine.

    Try disk 1 first.
