Drive Lost after 5.3.11 update

All drives are SMART enabled these days. I'm disappointed there was no warning. Surely for something like a NAS it could interrogate the SMART data and return if the reliability of the drive is degrading. To go from functioning to paperweight with a single reboot seems unncecessary to me.
