Dual Disk Failure this morning w/ X-Raid 6 (still alive), but now what?
I just got a couple nice Alert messages at 3:32 this morning that the disks in Channel 3 and 4 of my ReadyNAS Pro Pioneer (running 6.4.1) have failed. They aren't responding to SMART queries on the ...

You could try hooking these two disks up to your PC and testing them using SeaTools.
These disks are not designed for use in RAID and designed for more limits usage than disks we would recommend
It is possible that multiple disks may fail at the same time.

I guess my question is, is it less intensive to place both drives into the array to rebuild, or should I only do one at a time? I have 2 new drives coming in case they are actually dead... but I have a suspicion that its something else in my 5+ year old NAS that may have given out.
And yes, I know the Seagates aren't meant for RAID, but this raid rarely gets written to, and it's been chugging along just fine (until now) for a year.

Well testing the disks using SeaTools would be a good start. If the disks are bad I wouldn't try adding them back in.
The NAS would only process adding one at a time anyway, I think.- zivesterDec 30, 2015Aspirant
Checked SMART on both drives on my Desktop... everything seems fine. My NAS wouldn't reboot through admin or through SSH... so something weird was definitely going on with it. I forced a shutdown and booted it back up. Placedlaced both drives back in and they are recognized. It does only sync one of the drives at a time. Hopefully ~24 hours from now I have at least one of them synced and some redundancy back.
Hopefully that doesn't happen again, as I can't figure out why these two drives were booted from the volume.
