Duo to Android Streaming (Local and Remote)
Hi
I purchased my ReadyNAS duo for redundancy purposed for my photographs etc. but recently I became aware of all of the other great things it can do.
I also recently (I know, its 2011!) just got an Android based smartphone (HTC Wildfire) and I've been exploring all of the things it can do to.
Now looking at the Add-ons I see (thanks to Yoh-dah on twitter) that Orb offers a streaming client however it doesn't support the Duo., Super-poussin also seems to have developed the user add-on for streaming via a web browser. The browsing experience on my wildfire is poor so I'd rather avoid this interface.
I installed EStrongs file manager the other day which allows for WLAN or FTP access and can see the NAS but said that it wasn't setup for streaming and started copying the file selected across the WLAN, do I need to set up an add on to allow streaming (and the same quesiton for remote FTP access? as well is FTP ok? I use sFTP at work).
Ideally I'd like to be able to stream media from my NAS to my wildfire, anywhere. Has anybody set this up usng an existing app?
Thanks in advance for your input,
Paul
ps - the Duo has been great so far.

Key line....
Keyline...? I'm not sure if I wrote something wrong, but please specify, what it was, if I wrote some nonsense.. I'm just trying to help... English isn't my main language, so maybe I misunderstood something? What I mean is, that I have only used astro smb, when my phone was connected to my home network, but Streaming video and music using PlugPlayer/Rockplayer should work with Wifi and 3g. I have tested it myself. - TrezzyAspirantOk old thread but some ideas thrown around here pointed me in the right direction so I wanted to contribute. I am uncertain of the techy specs but I am guessing what I am doing is not actually streaming rather opening from a remote location.
I got this working by setting up the FTP on the NAS, setting up the port forwarding and then play the files with the android app BUZZ player. Real simple and works like a charm with my SGS2. I can stream video over 3g and it works great if the 3g reception is good. The only thing that nerfs functionality is if the reception is bad but that is rarely the case for me as I live in a major city. I mostly use this when I am out on business or staying at hotels so then there is always wifi :D
Hope this helps.
BR,
Trezzy
