There is an old post here that suggests that you cannot create a console: viewtopic.php?f=24&t=22787
Though there are some posts here: http://forum.nas-central.org/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=236 and http://debugmo.de/2007/07/running-own-c ... -readynas/ that suggest it might be possible.
It does sound pretty bricked to me. Maybe PM chirpa, he might have some thoughts. In the meantime, hopefully the owner can track down the sales info. If it was purchased on line, perhaps he can browse the order history?
