Duo V2 & PS3 - some files not listing

Hi,

Total newbie to NAS devices, so be gentle... :)

I have a PS3 that I've been viewing Video stored on my PC, using PS3 Media Server. I have homeplugs as the wifi signal isn't great - very few problems.

I didn't like having to keep my PC on and I wanted a reliable backup, so I bought a ReadyNAS Duo V2 knowing that it was DLNA compliant so should work fine with my PS3.

The actual setup was fine and the majority of files (avi mainly - not mkv) play really well. The music streaming is good also.

The problem is that some files don't show up on the PS3. The same file displays and plays ok using PS3 Media Server. Also, they show up on my Android tablet when connected to the Duo V2, using aVia.

I'm presuming therefore it is some problem with the PS3 and the file formats? (that PS3 Media Server sorts out). I'm no expert (at all), but I converted the file using PS3 Video 9 Convert and still no joy, which has sorted out issues using PS3 Media Server in the past. I converted it using Freemake and still not working.

Is there a particular tool / format / codecs I should be using? Again, I know little around this area. Any advice welcomed.

  • Er, interestingly everything now appears to be working ok!

I shut the Duo down last night (I also shutdown yesterday to test it but didn't work then) restarted today and everything showing up and playing ok.

I don't like it when this happens as I'm always expecting it to happen again.
