duo v2 loudness

Has anyone measured the loudness of a duo v2 with a sound pressure meter? I would like to put one in my living room but how loud it gets is an issue.

The comparison chart (http://www.netgear.com/images/ReadyNAS_ ... -57079.pdf) says 25 dba @ 1 meter. According to http://www.sengpielaudio.com/TableOfSou ... Levels.htm that is about the same loudness as someone breathing @ 1 meter.

There's more information on the V1 here: http://www.readynas.com/?p=301
That testing showed the V1 at its quietest was about 24 dba @ 1 meter, and at its loudest was about 39 dba @ 1 meter.

I have a V1, it is fine in my home office (on the floor). The PC and other equipment masks the noise (and it is only used for backup, it is generally not spinning when I am working anyway). It used to be in the family room, and when the fan kicked into high it was easily audible - enough that it could be distracting. The V1 post suggests that it is easy to construct a baffle that would solve that problem. I imagine you could also do that with a v2.

BTW, hard drives have quite different acoustic noise levels, so if you are concerned about sound levels you should take that into account when selecting your drives. For instance, the WD30EFRX idles at 23 dba@1m. The Seagate ST3000DM001 idles at 16 dBA@1m - 7 db quieter. I guess the Seagate must have the firmware upgrade to prevent the chirping!
