Should I have a pending disk failure, either I can NOT view the NAS in Net Neighborhood, or, RAIDar would not see/display my NAS.
Not exactly. If you have a pending drive failure, you should receive alerts if the e-mail alerts are set up. If you have a drive failure, you would also receive alerts, yet can still access the shares via Network Neighborhood and RAIDar would also be able to see the NAS would would on the display indicate the drive that had failed. Only if the array is degraded would your statement be true.
I can state for a fact that on sparc based (NV+) units with a two drive array (same as the Duo) with one dead drive you can still access the files, for I have done so. After replacing the failed drive while the unit is resynching the array, you can still access the files although response is slower. The above situation is also true for 4 drive arrays and x-86 units.
