mdgm,
Thank you for this suggestion, however there is little chance I will try this. Even though, NOW, I can do this w/o concern about my 'warranty!' My V1 is out of warranty. I am adverse to most things *nix. I recall that my DUO-V1 is constructed of some form of Debian Linux. Fine. It is a 'SPARC' thing. Fine.
I never planned to ever 'speak' directly to the f/w. FrontView has been just fine for my needs.
Yes, I understand that both my NAS use various types of Linux. Fine. Netgear managed to sell me a product with internal sw/fw using an OS I know zero about. At this point in time, I believe most of the bugs I've read about for the past 25yrs have been run to ground. My DUO-V1 runs nicely, thank you! I do so like my 4yr old DUO-V1. Now, I just wish to backup my V1 to my DUO-V2. Nothing more. My games with my Intel FreeAgent 500MB drive never worked; even post formatting externally via ext2/3, and, all the helpful hints and suggestions on this forum. USB is just too slow. JMHO.
Happy to know that v5.3.5 (V2) now allows RSYNC. This is what I am getting ready to try; post a re-install of the v5.3.5 f/w yet again to my 'new' DUO-V2.
