SetphenB,
My Bad. From my normal read of these forums, I seem to think most users are fully into BitTorrent and/or D* activities. I understand 'fix it promptly.' And, I follow this regimen also. I just do not care for the Netgear 'alert' overhead to use the device. I do not use this feature on my 4yr old DUO-V1.
I now chafe at being forced to use this feature on my DUO-V2 in order just to load the new DUO f/w. Plus, I do not like involving my ISP's mail system to enable the 'feature.' Certainly, my ISP may allow this perhaps. But, then, I have granted my new NAS external communication (beyond my router) for this feature to work.
I do not care for any 'background' communication (phone home, phone wherever). You are correct. Different strokes.
