Email configuration not working on Readynas nv+ v2

Hi,

Product:

ReadyNas NV+ v2

dashboard 1.0.0.271

Problem:

Cant get email service to work (Under Settings > Alerts)

Error Message:

Unable to send a test message. (the log doesn't provide any additional information)

Steps taken:

I have tried different accounts and all fail to receive the messages.

The following settings I am using which are working fine within my desktop email client

Alert Contact Email Address: <entered email that will receive the message>

Email Account Provider: <custom selected>

User: <filled in with @gmail.com>

Password: <filled in>

SMTP Server: smtp.googlemail.com

SMTP Port: 465

From: <same email as used for the smtp user account>

Use TLS: <yes>

Any suggestions?

Do you use a static IP address in the NAS?

If so, it might not be configured correctly (no DNS server being a common omission).

I use the same settings successfully on 4.1, 4.2, and OS 6 ReadyNAS.

It's probably an issue with the google account settings.  You need to turn off 2-step verification and turn allow less secure apps on.

Hi again, thanks for the quick response.

I have these settings the same. No 2 step, and yes to allow less secure apps.

It is also strange that my thunderbird has no problem working with the smtp settings.

Do I need to add a specific user with the gmail email address as well to readynas users?

I just cant same to find the solution. Been trying for a long time to get it to work. :-)

The only difference I can see between our settings is that I've removed the "gmail.com" in "user"  (e.g., using username there instead of username@gmail.com).
