Empty /media share while /c/media is filled #16777983
I have been the proud owner of a Ultra 6 for about three weeks now. After I got it I spend a couple of days configuring, installing and transferring all the files. I installed a some add-ons (Sabnzbd, Transmission & ReadyDLNA) and they all ran without error.
I added all the previously transfered music files to my iTunes library, after it finished building the library it worked like a charm, no lag or whatsoever. But then I wanted to add the squeezecenter add-on, I read the instructions which advised me to first install "Clean_SqueezeCenter_DB_1.0-x86", did that, installed squeezecenter and then things went wrong!
I can't see any of the files I previously transferred to the /media/ folder in Windows. When I log in as admin I can see all the files and folders in the /c/media/ folder but nothing in the /media/ folder. Also iTunes doesn't see the files and is unable to play anything stored on the NAS. Squeezecenter, ReadyDLNA and all the other add-ons are still working fine. Via http access I can see all the files and folders in /media/. I checked via SSH and I can also see all the files in the /media/ folder, all the symbolic links are there.
I'm completely lost as to how to fix this, so I hope there is a netgear wizard here that can help me!

- ndroberts1AspirantI figured out what the problem is and here is a temp workaround for my problem.
Located in the /etc/frontview/samba# direcory is the Shares.conf file with an incorrect path referance.
[media]
path = /c/temp
comment = "Media Files"
oplocks = 1
admin users = "admin","Administrator"
write list = "@users"
I simply stop CIFS shares - edit the file. Change /c/temp to /c/media and restart CIFS from frontview.
This solves the problem until the next reboot. I have yet to figure out how to change it permanently. - gleidAspirantThankyou for this extremely useful post! :D I finally understands what happened to my media share. media gets its data from webroot in my case, instead of c. I tried to rename the media folder back and forth, but it didnt work. It still points to webroot... Anyone else got that?
EDIT!
It works! I actually just had to turn off CIFS and THEN rename a couple of times. Then turn it all back on. And wey! It worked! Thanks people!
But when I restart the ReadyNAS the problem returns :( - gleidAspirantInstalled the 4.2 beta and it seems to work even after restart now! :D :D

This seems to solve the problem I described under the following link:
http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=65&t=59548
But since I am not a techie and my mother language is not english, could someone explain to me what are all the steps I have to do? I understand I have to rename the media share into something like "mediax" and rename it back to "media". But: is there any reboots to be done inbetween? or install raidiator 4.2.20?
Thanks in advance! - tubaraoAspirant@all
I tried (as dummy user of the Logitech Media Server) the following and it worked. Hope it lasts.
- Uploaded und updated my ReadyNAS Ultra 2 Plus with the beta Version of Raidiator 4.2.20 T19 to be found here: viewtopic.php?f=51&t=57193
- Rebooted the NAS
- Changed the share name of my Media share into Mediax (could have been any other name)
- Rebooted once more (do not know if this is necessary)
- Renamed the name Mediax back to Media
- Rebooted once more
- and Bingo: everything is BACK !! - jkpaulAspirantHi,
I'm suffering the same problem though it isn't the biggest issue for me, so I'm not keen to use this work-around if it is still temporary.
I'm concerned that the fix won't work if I need to reboot the ReadyNAS.
Can anyone advise if it does need to be done after every reboot?!
If so I think I'll wait for the next firmware update (c'mon Netgear!).
Thanks,
Paul - sphardy1Apprentice

I would have hoped that 4.2.20 would be able to correct this issue without requiring users to manually rename their shares multiple times - GeneDocAspirantI have a Ultra 4+ and ran into the issue where I had many /media/music, /media/picture, and /media/video files. I was running Radiator 4.2.19. I installed SqueezeCenter following the Logitech website instructions of cleaning, rebooting, installing squeezecenter, rebooting, cleaning, and then setting up the squeezecenter. Music plays on my SqueezeBox Duet and I declared success. Alas, happiness was premature.
As others have seen, I went back to my ReadyNas and the /media folder is corrupted, with no /pictures or /music or /video folders. I hopped on that joy of the InterWeb and found I was not alone. After I shed a tear of joy, I tried to update to the latest beta for Radiator 4.2.20-T28 today and now there's a /media folder and a /squeezecenter folder, but no music, picture, or video content in the /media folder. There are a couple folders in the /media that look like /squeezebox configuration folders, but my media are not visible.
Any thoughts on the next step?
*Note, I'll try the Mediax rename when I get home tonight. If that's it, I'll need to hit my head on the wall a few times for good measure. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDo the renaming of the share. That will fix it. Issue will not reoccur on 4.2.20
- GeneDocAspirantYes, the media share rename worked. Boy, that could have been nearly fatal, as I may have assumed the s@#t had hit the fan and it was time to start over. Someone needs to put this issue on the Logitech site to ensure that 4.2.20 is used and nothing prior.
