Error message or not?? How to eliminate it?

 

This error message started to appear on all of our ReadyNAS units when we add/modify/share folder contents.

Stuff seems OK if the error m essage is ignored but it must mean something.

 

Any help would be appreciated.

 

 

  • The solution to this issue is connected to the obtuse way the GUI provides guidance, or lack thereof.

     

    Assume you have a NAS – called TEST_NAS. 

    You go to change the name   System >> Settings(Gear)  and enter TEST-NAS.

    Change is accepted and life is good??  Not really.

     

    You need to change System >> Settings >> HTTPS >> change the SSL Key Host value to TEST-NAS.local.  Apply and reset the system.

     

    And now stuff works as expected. 

     

    In my view, this is a ‘bug’ in the GUI.  The initial change was accepted without any issues but it should have at least displayed and advisory message regarding the related ancillary change to the HTTPS SSL Key Host Value.   Possibly this is not important for every name change but I would think so. 

     

    My view is that the initial name change should have triggered an option to change the SSL Key Host value along with an explanation of the parameters. 

     

    NETGEAR wanted to charge a $500+ fee for a support case that in my view was related to shortcoming in the GUI or documentation.

      Can you download the NAS system logs then provide it to us so we can check? You may upload it to a cloud storage site then send me the download link via private message.

        I do not have access to cloud storage, at least as far as I know.  Do you have an email and I can mail you the compressed log file.
