Error message when deleting sparsebundle in terminal

I installed a new hard disk in my MBP and it has 500 GB. My current setting on my NV+ for Timemachine was 300 GB, so I want to delete the current sparsebundle and set a new max limit in Frontview.
I am not as tech savy as others, but have managed to install SSH access.
I have accessed the NAS box via terminal and entered the commands shown in other forum posts. This is the message I am getting:

NAS:/c/.timemachine# ls
XX’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle Network Trash Folder Temporary Items
NAS:/c/.timemachine# rm -rf XX’s\ MacBook\ Pro.sparsebundle/
rm: cannot unlink `XX’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle/bands/.AppleDouble/6b47': Operation not permitted
rm: cannot unlink `XX’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle/bands/.AppleDouble/6c2a': Operation not permitted
rm: cannot remove directory `XX’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle/bands/.AppleDouble': Directory not empty
rm: cannot remove directory `XX’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle/bands': Directory not empty
rm: cannot remove directory `XX’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle': Directory not empty

NAS:/c/.timemachine#

I interpret those 4 lines to mean that the sparsebundle has not been deleted. Any explanation on what I can now to increase the Timemachine limit?

Specs:
OX Lion 10.7.1
RAIDiator 4.1.8 -T9

  • Was something else accessing your sparsebundle?

You can change your max limit in frontview.

    Oh, if only I could.

See my reports of the Frontview bug here. And apparently it's still present in 4.1.8.
  • How long should it take to delete a sparsebundle via the terminal via SSH?

I tried to delete the sparsebundle again this morning.
Entering: "rm -rf X (the TAB)" does not work and gives the same error messages as shown above

When I enter: "rm -rf (then type the full name of the sparsebundle)" it's been running for about 45-60 minutes, but I can't tell if it is working

The terminal just shows a carrot (>)
If I type a command, e.g. ls or cd, nothing happens.
I assume that the command is being executed, but I never use the terminal and am new to Macs so I am unsure.

Deleting usually is fairly fast. If you cancel the deleting (ctrl+C) you can do a

"du -csh (then type the full name of the sparse bundle)"

Are you sure the sparsebundle is not in use?

Have you tried rebooting the NAS then attempting to delete the sparsebundle again?

You could have changed the limit using SSH: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=303518#p303518
  • Thanks for the quick reply.

When I attempted to delete the sparsebundle a second time the NAS and MBP had been restarted with nothing else opened or running on the computer.

I exited out of the terminal and reopened it. I logged on the NV+ via SSH and the only content it shows is a .timemachine with no name associated with it. There are also an Exit 127 listed.

Maybe the sparsebundle is deleted? I guess I will increase the quota limit on Frontview and then start a new backup process.
