File Sync and offline access
Is there an app that can syncronize my documents/pics/music to my ReadyNAS automatically as well as giving me offline/anywhere access to my files?
I really love how Apple's TimeMachine lets my friend's mac backup and access his files from anywhere with internet access.
I like how Microsoft's Live Mesh lets my computer sync files to the cloud and between multiple machines. As well as giving me browser access to any of the files.
I recently found ZumoDrive which blends the two of them, using Amazon S3 cloud storage to store files/folders in the cloud, and between multiple machines. It's smart, and allows streaming, predictive caching, and iTunes integration. It also caches oft-used files (or manual selection) for offline access.
Western Digital SmartWare is some awesome software, except that it resides in a special place on the USB drive and runs only when the drive is connected to your machine. It won't work over a network and dosn't syncronize with multiple PCs at all. (backup only, no "disconnected" caching of files)
The question I have is: Is there anything that does stuff like this, but for my ReadyNAS? A desktop agent that can auto-sync my files to a folder on my ReadyNAS (even if it is only when I'm on my home LAN) so that I don't have to worry about backup or remote access. But it has to work between multiple machines. Since the ReadyNAS works as a simple network share, that must be some 3rd party app that does what I'm looking for....

- awairAspirantTechnically you are probably correct, even though MS calls this a cache. I believe that the default behaviour can be altered to use the locally cached copy instead for performance ( or I may be confusing this with the way the Outlook offline cache behaves?)
I didn't realise that you were after this feature for performance (mine is for availability). Off tot he technet site to try and find the article I half remember, as performance would undoubtedly help me too. - awairAspirantDon't know if this might help? Transparent Caching in Win 7?

Have read it but still trying to determine the implications... - ONESIMUSAspirantHave you looked at using SyncBack by 2Brightsparks?
http://www.syncback.com/
I use it to backup a folder on my PC to the ReadyNAS periodically.
Is that what you were looking to do? - orGSD1Aspirant@quickly_now
I was just going to say that I am unfamiliar with Windows development, but separating the application as you were discussing is quite simply achieved in linux with DBUS (similar to how DCOP worked if you were exposed to that previously). It might work under windows because I know several QT4/KDE4 apps can run on Windows.
This would provide the exact solution you are seeking I believe.
And I am not sure how exciting the thought of switching frameworks to you is, but if you were to contemplate QT, you could run your apps on Windows, Mac & Linux.
Then us non-Windows users could consider your app!
Best of luck to you and look into DBUS if you get the chance to see if it is something that can make your life easier, even if you never port your apps beyond Windows.
Cheers,

Haven't used it but it might be useful, if it works. - Brew1AspirantAll these suggestions are pc focused, I'm on Mac OS has anyone had any success with http://www.tnpi.net/wiki/Do_It_Yourself_.Mac ? Or are ther any other recommendations?

Memeo Backup - http://www.memeo.com/choose_backup_t1a.php
- Continuous backup
- one-click full-machine backup
- Windows XP/7 only
- $30
Memeo was include with my ReadyNAS.
What are the best shares setting/router if I want to you Memeo and my ReadyNAS whn Im on the road ?
tx - Brew1AspirantCould this be the great Mac solution? http://www.destek.co.uk/foldersync/ I'd be interested if anyone has tried it and how it behaves when you come away from your network and if it works over VPN
