File/Folder Permission Issue - Intermitant

Hi All,

We've had a ReadyNAS NV+ V2 for almost 2 months now (on latest firmware etc) and it's been running perfectly.

Over the last 2-3 weeks, we have noticed that some users are having issues accessing some folders with 'Access Denied'. I have to manually go into the GUI and Reset permissions for every share, which take times and quite annoying.

Can someone possibly give me a work around to this, or guide me to an easy solution?

If you need any more information, please let me know.

Cheers,

Jake

  • In looking into this further, I have noticed this issue seems to only occur on shares that were copied from a former Windows based file server. The shares I created new on the NAS are not having permissions issues....
  • I am still getting issues even when my system is completely up to date. I need to re-run the 'Reset Folder Permissions' atleast once a day.

    Any ideas?
  • Jake, I'm still having the same issue as well. I've yet to find a correlation as to why this is happening. And no word from anyone yet on a fix. I've had two other techs here look at it as well...
  • Oh, and forgot to mention I've updated to the latest firmware as well. RAIDiator 4.2.22

    Hi Mike,

Same here. I upgraded hoping it would fix the issue. It's becoming a nightmare in the office now, with atleast 10 support requests a day.
  • Being that you're having the issue with local NAS groups and users and I'm having an issue with Windows accounts, I'm venturing a guess that it's an issue with propagation of permissions with the NAS itself.

Just out of curiosity, what protocols are you using for your shares? Currently I'm using CIFS only.
  • I was just reviewing my settings and saw in the Advanced CIFS Permissions that it was set to "Automatically set permissions on new files and folders." and "Do not allow ACL changes to be more restrictive than this." with everyone and group rights set to Read/Write. Do you have this enabled as well?
