File/Folder Permission Question - Admin access denied

I have the Ultra4 Plus and have setup share permissions for one of my friends to access the Media folder containing music files. I am the admin and have myself set up for read/write access to all shares. My friend has no problem logging in and transferring files to/from the Media share. The problem I'm encountering is that after my friend has transferred files to the Media share folder and I try to modify the files, say delete them, I get a permission error message saying I need permission from (my friends login name) in order to delete. If I login using my friends user name/password then I can delete the files that he transferred over.

Shouldn't I as Admin have access permission over any other users?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thank you,

Did you try the "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems."? This checkbox is on the "advanced options" tab of frontview. (go to share listing, click on the CIFs icon next to the share, and you will see "advanced options" on the top right). This is a control- you set the owner, etc; set the the checkbox and then hit apply. While you are there you might also check "Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files."

There are also permission settings on the CIFS tab (Advanced CIFS Permission)
  • Thank you for the reply. I should elaborate that I have myself setup as a read/write enabled user for all shares and then there is also the actual Admin login. I've been logging in under my non admin share access but shouldn't I still have permission access to all files/folders since I am setup as read/write in all shares?

Under the CIFS tab the Default Access at the top is set to "disabled". The Advanced CIFS Permissions box is checked with Group Rights for both the File/Folder sections is set to Read/Write with Everyone Rights set to Read Only. The "Do Not Allow ACL changes to be more restrictive than this" option is not checked. Under the Advanced Options tab I did check the "Set Ownership..." and "Grant rename..." options. When I press apply the Set Ownership option becomes un-checked and I then get a message saying the changes were applied. The share folder owner is "Admin" and the share folder group is "Media". Share folder rights are all set to Read/Write.

    Thank you for your assistance.

You might want to check "Do Not Allow ACL changes to be more restrictive than this"
