The NAS admin UI ( https://nas-ip-address/admin )will tell you that, as will RAIDar ( https://kb.netgear.com/20684/ReadyNAS-Downloads#raidar ).
If you entered the correct model number (ReadyNAS 1100 - which is a 4-bay rack mount), then the firmware should be 4.1.x. If the model was entered incorrectly, then it might also be 4.2.x, 5.3.x, or 6.x.x. A picture of the 1100 is below.

That means a disk has failed (or been removed).

The model on the front says Ready Nas NV + v2. I've attached an image if that helps?

That should be running 5.3.x firmware. Have you tried logging into the admin ui (using https://nas-ip-address/admin)? RAIDar will tell you the NAS IP address; you can also get it from your router (and perhaps the NAS LCD panel).

Hi again,
the problem is not my mac recognising the drive. It's that whilst it shows fileserver there's nothing there?
