Files/folders not showing up on TV!

ok so i tried hitting that rescan button.. still not fixing the issue.. right now (as im posting) the "TV series" folder that I have had on the nas since the day I bought it has vanished! its most definitely still there, just not visible from the TV! pretty god damn annoying.... what sharing protocols should i have on? are there any special settings that need to be correctly tuned for this to work? whats the point in having a nas if i cant see the files on it.. sigh
