Firmware 6.61 to 6.91 on RN104?

Greetings.  I have read the release notes and realize that from a technical standpoint I am okay moving from 6.61 to 6.91 on my RN104.  However I have been through firmware issues in the past and just want to make sure that making that move does not involve any "known issues" that have come up.

I don't upgrade every fractional update but I don't want to let it get so old that I have issues upgrading so just thought I would check.

Thanks,

BJB

  • There are a few fixes and updates from 6.6.1 since few firmware have been release prior to 6.9.1 like SMB support and NIC updates etc. It shouldn't cause any hiccups but that is why I also recommend doing a Factory reset assuming that it has not been done due to your current firmware. 6.6.1.

Again backing up data before doing any change on the system is always a good practice.

    Regards

    Hi BJB

    From the release notes

    • ReadyNAS 102, 104, and 2120 must not be updated directly to 6.9.x from 6.3.x or older firmware.  They must first be updated to either 6.2.5 or 6.3.5 then to 6.5.2 and then onto 6.9.x.

Since you are on 6.6.1 it is fine to go upgrade directly to 6.9.1, I would still recommend backing up your files as a safety precaution and if you have all your files safely backed up I would also recommend doing a factory reset to have a fresh OS 6.9.1 implemented on you RN104.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards

      Marc,
Thanks. I did see those release notes as I always read them, I just wondered if out in the user or support community there were hiccups to be aware of.
Or if this was a major or minor upgrade.
      Thanks,
      BJB
