What firmware were you running, and what did you upgrade to?
If you have USB devices connected (including a UPS), then try disconnecting them and rebooting.

The chassis might have failed. You can check the warranty status at my.netgear.com (it is 3 years for the original purchaser). If you are covered, then you can do an RMA, and get a replacement.
If you are the original owner, but out of warranty, then you can still use paid support at my.netgear.com.
The disks can be migrated to any new OS 6 NAS. I'd get at least an RN214, the RN104 is still supported but is no longer being manufactured.

I'll try the USB recovery tool and try to get this thing alive. Would like to have it back up and running as second NAS backup for backup 'cause these firmwar updates are **%*¨%* me :(. Now I am 'forced' to get a netgear again to have my data back from this one.
