Format NTFS External USB Errors on Win10 machine
I use an external USB drive to backup my ReadyNas daily. It's formated NTFS (by the ReadyNas). Every now and then I need a file from the drive and I take the external drive and plug it into a Win10 ...

Are you dismounting the drive on the readynas before you remove it?

It dismounts automatically after the backup, and remounts properly as long as it doesn't get mounted on a Windows machine first.
I rotate two identical drives daily over and over without incidents. Only on the rare occasion where I mount the drive on a Windows machine do the problems start. It doesn't matter which physical drive.

It's odd that Windows asks to scan it. Normally the dismount in the backup job should prevent that from happening.
Have you tried telling Windows not to fix it?

When you tell windows not to fix it, you can still access the files and folders just fine (in windows). It's when you remount it in the ReadyNas that the above error occurs.
Maybe I should format it on the windows machine?
