I'm afraid that there is no solution for the air video way of working, you can see my questions a few items lower than this one.
Another user said that the processor in the ultra series is way to slow for this kind of processing.
I checked yesterday the oplayer HD application. I stream (not download) movies directly from my readynas (ultra 4) to my Ipad 3 and this works like a charm up to 720p MKV's. 1080p is not really working yet unfortunately.
There is a free version, whick has almost all functionality as the paid version, so you can always try. On the forum "http://www.edavs.com/forum/" there are several items conserning apple tv connectivity.
I propose to follow that route. If you take the free version, it costs you nothing but the time to try it ;-)
Without wanting to advertis this program, it is the only app that I found that was able to stream directly from my nas with good results (but still with the exception of the 1080p mkv's). What i did not try yet is to download the 1080p movie and to play it from the ipad, but in my opinion, this is not the way to work when having a NAS, is it?
