Genie Apps on new readynas 104 not installing?
Hi,
I bought a new Readynas 104 as soon as it became available, and am trying to install apps from the genie marketplace. The service is enabled, and I created an account on the website and logged in on the nas admin page.
I am presented with a list of apps. Now, if I click 'Buy' on an app like SABnzbd, it just sits there saying it is being installed and never completes. This happens for all apps.
Why does the link say Buy but not give you a price or ask you for any payment info? Am I doing something wrong?
Also the Genie marketplace website has not been updated to include the new 104 so it says I have no apps available there.
Can I purchase an app from somewhere like ReadynasXtras like I could on the Duo and install via the update function still? How does this work?
This new readynas range seems very rushed out, there are parts which obviously have not been updated to accommodate it!

- chirpaLuminaryThe addon installer format (SDK) has changed with the new OS, the older versions are not compatible.
The Genie staff visit here every few days, you may want to call tech support for quicker response. - ihartleyTutorBeware ye the promise of fool's gold and Genie apps...... There might be some, but IMHO Netgear have just jumped on the "app" bandwagon. I've been very disappointed.... (NV+ v2)
- randomnut1ApprenticeOK I was able to fix this. It turns out that when you click 'buy' it is far from the one click experience Netgear promises it to be. Where the box opens and says it is installing, what is supposed to happen it it launches the genie apps web site. So where it hangs saying it is installing, it isn't supposed to install anything at all. They could have got around this by just including a 'click here if you are not redirected' link as all its supped to do is launch a browser. poor.
You are then supposed to manually buy the app from the website and select for it to install the apps to your nas device.
The red herring was that the apps for the new range is listed as their own duplicate app entries, right at the last page of the buggy, slow, horribly designed website. So you have to click next page, wait 5 minutes, repeat 5 times to get to the end of the list and find the small selection of apps available. Then you can purchase and install one.
It is also worth noting that there is a lot of apps (as listed in the apps section here http://netgear.com/landing/storage/home.html#4 ) which are simply not available despite it saying so in the marketing for this device. For example: Transmission. Simply not available for the 104. Even if I could get a compatible package from the developer, it seems Netgear have removed the ability to install app packages manually, instead forcing you to buy from their marketplace which is a buggly, slow, horrible purchasing experience.
Netgear really dropped the ball making such a big deal about the apps but putting almost 0 effort into it. - chirpaLuminaryrandom, how are you with SSH? If you run the command below, does it load up?
# apt-get update; apt-get install transmissionr6; touch /apps/transmissionr6/.localapp

And it says in the log app successfully installed. However, it doesn't show in the Installed Apps section and I can't access it via port 8181 as you usually can. How do I remove what has been installed? - chirpaLuminaryTry downloading this file to your PC: http://apt.readynas.com/packages/readyn ... .1_all.deb
Then upload it in Dashboard via System>Settings>Install Firmware. Does it show up in GUI then?
edit: much simpler, after the apt-get, do this, and the app will show up in GUI:# touch /apps/transmissionr6/.localapp
- randomnut1ApprenticeThanks! Getting closer. That package installs and shows up under apps. I can get a response on port 8181, and can get a login prompt. Just trying to find the credentials now, the usual admin/password or admin/password1 from previous releases doesn't work.
Thanks for your help! - chirpaLuminaryTry admin/admin
The interface of the genie website leaves a lot to be desired. 1995 called, it wants its html back?
https://genie.netgear.com/UserProfile/# ... :service52
The AJAX code on there is very slow, hard to direct link to pages, no search/sort functionality, yuck. - randomnut1ApprenticeThanks chirpa, all is now working perfectly. All this hassle just to install an app! Was so much easier on my duo v1. Netgear really need to sort this out, their genie website is horrible.
I'll make a donation later for Transmission. - chirpaLuminaryUpdated my post above, don't need to manually upload the .deb file, just 'touch' a file.
