Genie Apps on new readynas 104 not installing?
Hi,
I bought a new Readynas 104 as soon as it became available, and am trying to install apps from the genie marketplace. The service is enabled, and I created an account on the website and logged in on the nas admin page.
I am presented with a list of apps. Now, if I click 'Buy' on an app like SABnzbd, it just sits there saying it is being installed and never completes. This happens for all apps.
Why does the link say Buy but not give you a price or ask you for any payment info? Am I doing something wrong?
Also the Genie marketplace website has not been updated to include the new 104 so it says I have no apps available there.
Can I purchase an app from somewhere like ReadynasXtras like I could on the Duo and install via the update function still? How does this work?
This new readynas range seems very rushed out, there are parts which obviously have not been updated to accommodate it!

But be prepared for them to disappear from the admin page so you lose control to start/stop the service as it does it even with apps from the genie store.
I can't believe how slow they are fixing these bugs, I haven't had a single firmware update since i've had the device.
This is definitely beta level, they should never have released it in this state.
I'm having so many problems with the I don't even know where to begin.
-You can't manually add apps with the firmware tab
-DLNA is hit or miss, sometimes my smart TV picks it up but other times not (I had to enable tivo for it to work?) - Curious123Aspirant

I have managed to get Transmission client installed on NAS 104 using this link http://apt.readynas.com/packages/readyn ... .1_all.deb to download the file to my pc and then upload the file using the firmware update option. My DLNA is working and all of my films are recognised my prblem was that my fils restarted after 10 mins. Manyy thanks to randomnut and chirpa. - noleafclover133Aspirant

Nice, I just got transmission running as well. So, does the os6 recognize .deb files but not .bin files? I wonder if there is a way to convert? The plex app i have is .bin so it won't upload in firmware update. Hmm. - paskeAspirantI've managed also to install Transmission manually (and use it) via the firmware tab but after a restart of the NAS even if the apps was listed on the "welcome page" of the NAS, they didn't appeared in the Applications tab ! After a few restarts and research I found a workaround : when clicking the Applications tab it ask the login/pwd to connect to the Genie Market. I canceled the login dialog box and then my apps suddenly appeared again in "Installed applications" !!!
It seems they rushed a little bit before lunching this product. - noleafclover133Aspirant

There's just so many quirky things with it like that. I'm thinking i can't get DLNA to work because it's currently rebuilding a drive I added. So maybe another bug, but it could be something else. - randomnut1ApprenticeGuys remember if you installed Transmission manually outside of Genie then consider sending SuperPoussin a donation for his efforts putting the package together :)
But, yes agreed with all of you, OS 6 is so rushed its unbelievable. Hopefully Netgear are busy fixing these bugs. I cannot recommend the new range to anyone at this stage. - noleafclover133Aspirant

Oh agreed, I paid for transmission with my last nas (rnd2000), I'm all for supporting the developers. There's not even a way to support them now as it's not in the genie client... sigh, yeah hopefully things get fixed soon. - ahpsi1TutorI've seen this on my 314, bought Transmission after a lengthy and annoying Genie account creation (that asks for login every time I visit the 'installed' apps page) installed and ran Transmission. Just finding the right Transmission and forcing the web page to recognize that I even owned a 314 took too much time - especially compared to the ease with which it was installed on my NVX. After I had it up and running I thought all was well - until it promptly disappeared from my 'installed' apps list. Go back to Genie, find it, re-install. Stop, edit settings.json to customize, start and have now crossed my fingers in the hopes Netgear Genie doesn't blink it's eyes and make my apps disappear again.
Dated and ineffective interface aside it is sad to see Netgear attempt to monetize what was already an effective and successful 'third party' market. It appears they want the most money with the least effort - the developers do all the work and Netgear takes a piece of the pie to justify a bad website and a poorly implemented payment processor. - noleafclover133AspirantI heard back from Netgear on installing plex. This was their reply:
"That would mean that that add-on/Apps is not yet supported by this device's platform. The ReadyNAS that supports Plex is our ReadyNAS Intel based devices (i.e our ReadyNAS Pro and Ultra). Since this App is third party software we are not sure as to when they will affiliate their software with our new system. I will also need to inquire if this is valid for feature request. "
...It's advertised as being able to run plex! And the IP camera management software. C'mon... - randomnut1ApprenticeThat doesn't surprise me. There's a whole raft of applications listed in the marketing for these devices as available however only a few of them are actually there!
Transmission for example it clearly says it is available yet we've had to resort to a backdoor installation.
Netgear really have to get their head out the sand and simply stop lying about their products capabilities.
I wonder if they actually researched anything about their products before putting the marketing together or just let the work experience schoolboy put it all together and publish it out to the world?
