Genie Apps on new readynas 104 not installing?
Hi,
I bought a new Readynas 104 as soon as it became available, and am trying to install apps from the genie marketplace. The service is enabled, and I created an account on the website and logged in on the nas admin page.
I am presented with a list of apps. Now, if I click 'Buy' on an app like SABnzbd, it just sits there saying it is being installed and never completes. This happens for all apps.
Why does the link say Buy but not give you a price or ask you for any payment info? Am I doing something wrong?
Also the Genie marketplace website has not been updated to include the new 104 so it says I have no apps available there.
Can I purchase an app from somewhere like ReadynasXtras like I could on the Duo and install via the update function still? How does this work?
This new readynas range seems very rushed out, there are parts which obviously have not been updated to accommodate it!

What do you mean by 'touch' the file ?
Maybe a noob question... - randomnut1ApprenticeSome really weird things going on with the apps on this device. Quote often if I log into the admin page, it will only list maybe 2 apps and not the other 3 I have installed, meaning I can't start/stop them from that page. The apps are live though, because I can go to their address and use them.
I can reboot the device, and sometimes it will then show all installed apps.
Today however, some apps were not responding, and did not show up in the admin page. I went to the genie marketplace and it just showed available for install. So I hit install to my device, and lo and behold they are now avilable and working again.
So it seems like somehow the readynas uninstalled these apps. Or at least stopped working and became uncontrollable from the admin page.
This is an ABYSMAL device. My readynas duo v1 was a million times more stable than this POS.
If anyone is thinking of buying this device and using add-ons, DO NOT DO IT. - noleafclover133AspirantI couldn't agree more. I purchased the RN104 earlier this week and have spent DAYS trying to figure out how to install the PLEX and TRANSMISSION apps. I still have yet to figure it out and I don't know SSH. It's ridiculous that you can't upload the .bin files from the GUI. Funny thing is, I sell tech products for a living, and the person who trained us on these devices insisted how easy it is now to install apps and setup/ manage this unit. So far I'm not too impressed.
Anyways, I have the .bin files saved to my desktop. Has anyone had luck running plex on here? I don't even see it in their app store, I had to download it from the plex website.
Can someone walk me through how to install an app with ssh (or link me) on this unit? I'm new with the command line.. i have putty and can authenticate to the rn104, but after putting in my username and password it says "welcome to readynas" and then just terminates the session... any help is much appreciated. - chirpaLuminary

Maybe a noob question...apt-get update; apt-get install transmissionr6; touch /apps/transmissionr6/.localapp
- noleafclover133AspirantI opened a tech support case regarding the installation of 3rd party apps (i.e. plex). We'll see how this goes..

Thanks for your answer but I still not get it !
I understood that I have apply that code but which tool do you use to do that ? Is it within the Readynas OS ? - randomnut1ApprenticeYou can install bin files by system - settings - install firmware. Just make sure you do the dependencies first.
But be prepared for them to disappear from the admin page so you lose control to start/stop the service as it does it even with apps from the genie store.
I can't believe how slow they are fixing these bugs, I haven't had a single firmware update since i've had the device.
This is definitely beta level, they should never have released it in this state. - bajorgensenAspirant

On the x86 units PLEX is under apps -> installed.
Just flip the switch, wait a few minutes while downloading, and it works automagically.
You do not eve have to turn on genie... - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredThe 104 is an ARM unit not a x86_64 one. Yes, as you mentioned it is pre-installed on the x86_64 units.
- bajorgensenAspirantThat was what I suspected...
