Hard drive(Hitachi) with Apple Firmware used for Readynas?
Hi.
I purchased a used hard drive and I just found out that it had been used in some strange type of computer called an Apple( like the fruit) and it was suppose to have special firmware for this " Apple" computer.
The person said that it should work fine in a normal computer but I am not sure. Does anyone know if this Apple firmware on this hard drive can work on the Readynas X6 units or if there is some kind of problem?
I have never encountered a problem with this before.
Thanks.

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt may/may not work. It is recommended not to use drives with custom firmware as NetGear only test drives with stock firmware from the manufacturer and will not be able to help if you run into issues using drives with custom firmware.
- claykinAspirantYou can check with Hitachi support to see if your disk has custom firmware. Knowing Apple it does.
I don't recommend buying used disks. The only time i will ever buy used disks is for older SCSI systems where disks are no longer avail new.
