Are you using X-RAID?
Regardless of the answer to the above have you considered higher capacity disks such as 1TB disks? It's highly unlikely any more 500GB disks will be qualified for this device as it's EOL.
If you use disks outside the compatibility list NetGear can and will deny support so it's even more important than normal to have an up to date backup of important data primarily stored on your ReadyNAS.
