Help me save my data

Hi,
I have recently (16 nd December) upgrraded firmware from 6.1.9 to 6.2.0 and I"m having some issues with it.

My HW:
- ReadyNAS31400 is occupied with 2x HDD WD4001FAEX (4TB / SATA / 64MB CACHE - WD BLACK - mirrored RAID 1) - agreed according to the compatibility list.
- after the upgrade and a long booting precess the NAS sever detected no IP address and the display also said there was a message ""Cannot connect discovery server"" alghtougt the DHCP server assigned the 192.168.54.31 address for the NAS serever, but the windows ping command ended up with:
Pinging 192.168.54.31 with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 192.168.54.56: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.54.56: Destination host unreachable.
Reply from 192.168.54.56: Destination host unreachable.

So I tried to look up for the server usig RAIDar, but unfortunately I could not find it.

So I tried:
1,I pulled out one of the two HDD's (slot No. 2) and I switched the NAS on. After a long booting process it ended up with a blinking push power on button and blinking display saying ""data degraded"". Then I switghed off the NAS and I did not touch the second HDD (just to not loose the data).
2,I also pulled out both HDD's and pulled in NTFS formatted one HDD (Samsung HD250HJ (SATA / 250GB / 8MB CACHE)) and RAIDar found it, the OS was installed and NAS looked OK. But of courtse the original data was saved on the two other redundant disks (pulled out). I tried to pull in the original HDD 1 into slot No. 3 (No. 2 and 4 empty) expecting some data to show up, but the only operation provided was to delete it (the original HDD 1). I pulled out the original HDD 1 and I swithed the NAS off.
3, I pulled in the 250GB HDD (with installed FW/OS V6.2.0), downloaded and installed the new 6.2.2 firmware and everything looked OK (of course wihtout the original data and the booting process was realy short). So a new HDD did not have a problem with 6.2.2 firmware.

How can I access the data on the two original HDD's??? Plaese help me to save the original data!!!

Thanks for any idea.

  • It's risky if you don't have back up. What I'd do is to check the drives first using disk diagnostic tools (Seatools or WD Lifeguard), if both of the disk are okay, I'd put one of the drives on the original bay where it was previously inserted then perform an OS reinstall.

But if you are not sure to do the stuff I mentioned, it is best to call support:

  • Thank you very much for your advice.
I reinstalled the OS and everything works well – all my data is safe!!!
