Help Needed for ReadyNas 314 - Backup Jobs from Scratch
Hi Everyone,
I have had a ReadyNas for years.
I stopped using my ReadyNas 314 a couple of years ago as it stopped 'talking' to my Mac properly.
I am not an expert - I want to add that now so I need to be walked through this.
How it was working previously and working great was:
- I logged into the web config page of the NAS
- I went to Backup
- I created a job
- It was a local job
- Pointed it to my Mac's IP
- Shared the folder on the Mac
- Told the config page the name of the share
- Set it as Windows (Archive Bit) {I dont even know what that is but it worked}
- Programmed my username and password
- Test Connection - passed
- Set the routine and schedule
- Save
That ran perfectly for a couple of years but then it just stopped working. This coincided with the time where I switched my Mac to use iCloud Documents. My machine keeps a copy of my files on my Mac but uploads a copy to the cloud so I can work across multiple devices.
If I create a folder in the 'Shared' user folder called "TEST" in the Macintosh HD > Users directory, then do the steps above, the NAS passes the connection test yet it wont on any of my personal folders.
I dont know if there is some kind of real path masking going on or if the folders are not called the same on my local machine as iCloud has changed them, I just dont know but I would really like to be able to sort this out.
Any help please.
Thanks
Ross

Do you have another device you can use to access the shared folder (another PC, or perhaps a phone/tablet running iOS 14.x?
It is possible that this is a file permission problem on the Mac. I'm not a Mac user though, so I can't help much with that.
- flummoxedAspirantHi Thanks but I have tested my theory and I think its because when I turned on iCloud drive, it created a hidden directory '~/Library/Mobile Documents' which is where it stores a cached copy of everything from the iCloud and when I click onto 'Documents' in my Finder, it basically just jumps to that location, almost like a shortcut. That ~/Library/Mobile Documents folder cannot be added in the Mac Sharing options from what I can see and therefore I cannot get it to back it up. The only think I can think of doing is creating a script to copy the ~/Library/Mobile Documents folder to an external HDD and then share that so the NAS can copy but that seems very clunky and unnecessary. I'm guessing Netgear dont have any kind of iCloud backup option?

FreeFileSync is one package that should work; there are others out there.
