There are some cases where just plugging in the disks will not work - particularly if the chassis has very old firmware. Using a scratch disk, and then upgrading the NAS flash if needed is a bit safer.
a_burger_with_fries wrote: you should be able to just put the disks in and boot it up it will boot from the disks so if the chassis is not on the latest firmware just boot it up and install the firmware.
chassis disks
4.1.9 4.1.10
the nas will boot up on 4.1.10 then download firmware and load it to the nas (4.1.10) then the chassis and the disks will both be 4.1.10
